What can this treatment possibly do?
This nasolabial fold filler injection treatment can flatten out the static wrinkles at the nasolabial folds and reduce the appearance of laugh line / nasolabial folds wrinkle line.
Laugh lines are nasolabial folds that run from both sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth. They come with aging, when facial fat pads are lost and cause the skin to sag downwards and form prominent folds.
Facial aging concerns all facial structures, including skin, soft tissues, muscles, and bone. In the aging face, redistribution of superficial and deep fat leads to volume loss, contributing to the loss of malar projection and apparent deepening of the nasolabial folds.
The loss of facial volume results in a loss of support for the skin which appears to become redundant, such as around the (lip) orbicularis muscle.
What medical technology or device does this treatment utilise and how it is done?
The nasolabial fold filler procedure is done by injecting Hyaluronic Acid Filler / Facial Dermal Filler into the desired spot underneath the skin of the nasolabial fold to flatten out the static wrinkles and enhance the overall facial appearance.
Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring component found in the skin, eye and cartilage. Approximately half of human body’s natural occurring hyaluronic acid is found in the skin, and as such is biocompatible and biodegradable (absorbable) by the human body.
Hyaluronic acid has many roles, though a major function is the binding of water, and it is this which determines skin viscoelasticity, hydration, structure and firmness. As skin ages, natural dermal hyaluronic acid found in the skin decreases and results in reduced elasticity, volume loss, and the development of wrinkles (rhytids) and other aging features. The injection of dermal filler into the skin can thus improve hydration, elasticity, structure, firmness and volume of treated skin.
Dermal fillers, such as those containing hyaluronic acid, are very suitably used for three dimensional facial contouring and reflation of the face, correcting volume loss and addressing static wrinkles (rhytids). They have been successfully used for facial correction and can be combined with the use of Btx for correcting dynamic wrinkles (rhytids).
What are the likely results? Any side effects or downtime?
A systematic review on injectable / dermal facial fillers used for soft tissue augmentation concluded Hyaluronic Acid fillers to be safe and proven for correction of nasolabial folds.
Volume enhancement, especially for correction of nasolabial folds and mesiolabial folds was very good and was noted straight away after the dermal filler injections.
