The cheek filler treatment can replace the volume loss and address the problem of a sunken cheek.
Facial volume has been recognized as a key feature in our perception of youthfulness. Recreating volume in an aging face has been shown to reduce the perception of a patient's age by some years.
A younger version of our own face is something that could resonate when we look in the mirror. An MRI study of female cadavers shows that inferior migration of the facial fat pads is relatively pronounced in elderly women compared to those of middle age. It stands to reason that if we could restore volume and position simultaneously, we could restore a youthful look that would be seen as natural, as it follows the curvature of the individual's malar eminence.
There is general consensus that loss of facial volume and positioning is the cause for larger wrinkles (rhytids) such as the nasolabial fold and melolabial folds.

What medical technology or device does this treatment utilise and how it is done?
The Cheek Filler procedure is done by injecting Hyaluronic Acid Filler / Facial Dermal Filler into the desired spot underneath the skin of the cheek to increase cheek volume contour and enhance the overall facial appearance.
Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring component found in the skin, eye and cartilage. Approximately half of human body’s natural occurring hyaluronic acid is found in the skin, and as such is biocompatible and biodegradable (absorbable) by the human body.
Hyaluronic acid has many roles, though a major function is the binding of water, and it is this which determines skin viscoelasticity, hydration, structure and firmness. As skin ages, natural dermal hyaluronic acid found in the skin decreases and results in reduced elasticity, volume loss, and the development of wrinkles (rhytids) and other aging features. The injection of dermal filler into the skin can thus improve hydration, elasticity, structure, firmness and volume of treated skin.
Dermal fillers, such as those containing hyaluronic acid, are vert suitability used for three dimensional facial contouring and reflation of the face, correcting volume loss and addressing static wrinkles (rhytids). They have been successfully used for facial correction and can be combined with the use of Btx for correcting dynamic wrinkles (rhytids).
What are the likely results? Any side effects or downtime?

The diminishment of cheek fat with advancing age, leads to a lax cutaneous envelope, giving the illusion of a prominent nasolabial fold. Cheek filler, by revolumizing the upper face can reverse this, resulting in a normalized nasolabial fold without direct injection into the fold.
Further, cheek filler, by replacing the volume of the upper face changes the shape of the face to be broader at the eyes than at the mouth/chin, retrieving the visual cues of a youthful feminine face.
Some bruising and mild bruising may be expected, which are transient and go away after a couple of days.
