It is a myth to assume that acne scars cannot be treated. The Reality is that it is never too late to start improving the appearance of your acne scars for greatly improved confidence. Desirable results are usually seen after multiple repeated sessions of treatment.

Pimple mark or acne scars which had been there for a long time can still be removed by a combination of various treatment methods, from Co2 Laser, to INFINI micro-needling, to chemical peels. We have seen many patients whom have smooth and glowing skin after repeated and persistent treatment. After the acne scars / pimple marks are removed, you can try our other skin rejuvenation treatment to have a dewy glowing skin and complexion. Yes, it is possible!
1. Skin Resurfacing.

The main purpose of skin resurfacing is to remove the top layer of damaged acne scarred skin for new, smooth and healthy skin to regrow over. New skin will usually form about 7 days after a resurfacing procedure. Resurfacing can be achieved by (a) Laser resurfacing (fractional CO2 laser or fraxel); (b) Dermabrasion; and (c) Chemical Peels.

(a) Laser resurfacing – Fractional CO2

Fractional CO2 Laser (also commonly known as Fraxel) is an ablative laser which can be used in a controlled manner to accurately shear off the top lawyer of damaged acne scarred skin. New and healthier skin will grow over the face, resulting in a smoother overall texture and appearance.

This is among one of our most popular acne scar treatment procedure which we are renowned for. It is an extremely effective treatment. The fractional laser system which we use is both FDA and HSA approved.

Under the right and experienced hands, the outcome from fractional CO2 laser treatment tends to be very good and noticeable improvements can be seen from the first session onward. Additionally, visible improvements can also be seen after every subsequent session. It gets visibly better after every session! Patients have also reported that improvements continue for up to 6 months post treatment.

Depending on the severity of the acne scars, usually around 5 to 10 sessions may be required to see optimal results.

Pain during the procedure is minimal as we will apply a layer of strong numbing cream before the laser procedure. Some redness and swelling can be expected for 2 days after the treatment. Thereafter, scabbing and recovery will quickly follow.

We recommend treatment sessions be spaced out 4 weeks apart for maximum results.

(b) Chemical peels (TCA cross)

Chemical peels consist of a special type of acid which can remove the top layer of acne scarred skin. This can help with deeper scars. Again, a smoother skin and complexion can be seen once new, healthy skin recovers and grows over the treated area.

(c) Dermabrasion / microdermabrasion
In simple terms, dermabrasion is a rapidly spinning rough surfaced wheel which removes and "sandpaper" away the top layer of damaged acne scarred skin. We reccomend microdermabrasion all full dermabrasion may be too rough, casuing excessive downtime and side effects.

Do try our microdermabrasion facial for SGD280 per session only.

2. Acne Scar Filler

Filler can be used to fill up depressed acne scars with the aim of puffing and leveling the pitted scars uto help smooth it out. This method is only suitable for certain acne scars.
Facial fillers are expected to last up to 6 months, and be absorbed by the body over a period of time. Studies have however shown that repeated use of acne scar filler helps the facial skin produce more collagen, which in turn repairs the skin to give it lasting improvement.

3. Scar Reduction Injection

Scar reduction injections are only suitable for use to soften and flatten raised scars to make it level with the skin. After the injection, fractional CO2 laser is also usually done to further level the raised acne scar with the skin.
4. Needling

Needling, as the word suggest, is the treatment procedure where the doctor rolls a device with thousands of tiny needles on it against your skin. Needling the skin in a controlled fashion is scientifically proven to stimulate growth, healing and regeneration of the facial tissue. We offer two needling procedure: (a) Manual subcission; and (b) Microneedling by INFINI.

-
Manual Subcission

Manual subcission is where our doctor manually uses needles to carefully prick the acne scars to separate the skin and the deeper layers of an acne scar. The manual needling causes scar tethering, which allows the skin to heal in a smooth and level fashion - effectively achieving a remodeling of the acne scar.

Some bleeding may be expected during the procedure. Bruising is common after the procedure but will resolve in 2 to 3 days.

-
Microneedling by INFINI

Microneedling by INFINI is somewhat similar to the use of a manual dermaroller (which has thousands of tiny needles on the roller) to roll over acne scar to remodel and soften acne scar tissue. The idea is that upon healing, the new skin will be smoother and leveled.

The drawbacks of a manual dermaroller is that the strength, intensity and depth cannot be controlled with precision.

We therefore recommend Microneedling with the INFINI system (Lutronic). INFINI is the latest technology to precisely deliver radiofrequency (RF) energy through Insulated Microneedles for consistent outcomes.
INFINI works by piercing the skin at three different levels with very thin gold coated micro-needles. Heat is then delivered by radiofrequency through the micro-needles. As the INFINI micro-needles are mechanically controlled, it can penetrate deeper than laser and improve stubborn resistant acne scarring.
When the micro-needles pierce the skin, they create small injuries to the skin. These injuries stimulate the body’s natural healing process. During the healing process, cell turnover is stimulated which increases the production of collagen and elastin, giving a radiant and natural result which is long lasting lasting results, sometimes lasting years. The process also creates new skin cells that help to eliminate scarring, fine lines, wrinkles, and large pores.

With INFINI, the depth that the needle will penetrate the skin can be precisely adjusted, making this treatment less invasive than other needling treatments which may cause more side effects. More invasive needling treatment may also cause damage to the epidermis. This is something that the INFINI system is able to avoid with the delivery of precise energy and mechanically controlled needling.

Apart from delivering the usual micro-needling, once the micro-needles are at the desired depth the INFINI system will deliver radiofrequency energy to the tip of the micro-needles. They are set to reach the ideal temperature to create coagulation zones in the treatment areas. A coagulation zone is created when the heat causes damage and injure to an area in the dermis. This injury stimulates your body to create collagen and elastin to rejuvenate the skin.

It used to be that Radiofrequency in high energies cannot be delivered to the skin without causing a certain degree of epidermal damage or burn as it passes through the epidermis. However, this new INFINI technology makes use of microneedles to bypass the epidermis and reach the deep dermis directly so that the passage of energy is transmitted past the epidermal layer of the skin and gives selective heating of the dermis only. The needles that pass through the skin are also insulated so that the epidermis layer is protected to minimise risks and side effects.

The combined technology of both microneedling and radiofrequency allows patients to get the most out of a short, non-invasive treatment. Both cause the body to create new cells and produce more collagen and elastin. By performing two procedures that have the same effect at one time, the amount of collagen produced is greatly increased. Infini may seem to be an intense treatment, but to ensure the patient’s comfort an area is never exposed to heat twice. This makes it much more tolerable and almost painless.
Apart from the elimination of acne scar, the INFINI treatment is also known to improve patients with saggy or loose skin because it combines radiofrequency and microneedling in a single treatment, giving fractionated remodeling to the deep dermis. The results are reduced acne scars together with a skin tightening and face lift effect. A two in one benefit all without surgery.

From our experience, usually, 1-3 sessions are required to see optimal results.
Dr Tiffiny Yang had been nicked-named the queen of INFINI treatments as she had done hundreds of INFINI treatment with stellar results. Hygiene and sterility are extremely important to us, we therefore ALWAYS use BRAND NEW INFINI tips for every patient every session.

Possible Side Effects from Acne Scar Treatments
